Dr. Valerie Nelson, DNP, FNP-C, BMTCN

Hi, I'm Valerie and I am a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. I was born and raised in the beautiful state of Arizona. I have been a nurse for over five years and am a recent graduate of a nurse practitioner program. I completed my associate's degree at South Mountain Community College and got my BSN from Grand Canyon University. I worked as a nurse for five years before graduating with my DNP from the University of Arizona. As you can tell, I definitely have some home state pride.

I am married to the most AMAZING man who has been extremely supportive of me and my career goals. He is the love of my life, volleyball teammate, dancing partner, adventure buddy, and biggest supporter. I also have two super cute pups (one Blue Heeler and one Australian Shepherd-Blue Heeler mix).

I bet you are wondering where Dr. Gene came from, right? Well, my middle name is Gene and one day of my close friends decided to start calling me by my middle name. When I graduated with my doctorate degree, the name changed to "Dr. Gene" and it just kind of stuck. I started using it as my nickname during game nights and now it is a part of my identity as a person and professional.

I decided to start this blog because there aren't a ton of NP blogs out there and I want this to be fun, educational, entertaining, and inspirational. Most of the blogs I found are all about professional development, how to get through school, or career advice. Now, I will definitely cover those topics, but I want to write about so much more!

I hope you enjoy this blog and I appreciate any feedback. Thank you for reading!
