Zion National Park
I was lucky enough to have a couple of weeks off between ending my RN job and starting an NP job and we chose to take a road trip to Zion National Park. My husband and I had been wanting to go to Zion for a while and we were so blessed to be able to go at such a beautiful time of year. We actually planned this trip with one of his gaming buddies he's been playing with for about four years but had never met in person until this trip.
We spent three nights in Hurricane, a town about half an hour away from the park. We enjoyed two full days of exploring and enjoying the southern Utah weather in early November. The high was in the 70s and the lows in the 40s which was perfect for being outdoors. We also were able to meet up with a couple more buddies that my husband plays videogames with who lived close to where we were staying. It was perfect timing and a wonderful coincidence to be able to meet so many new and amazing people.
We went to the park both days in the morning and early afternoon and did quite a few hikes. We hiked the Canyon Overlook Trail, Emerald Pools, The Grotto Trail, Riverside Walk, and part of the Kayenta Trail. It was cold in the early morning because we got there at 7 am, but it warmed up by mid-morning…PERFECT for hiking! The scenery was beautiful and we were very close to some wildlife. We walked literally within five feet of three deer! We couldn’t do some of the more famous ones like Angels Landing or the Narrows but we plan to go back in late Spring next year. The Kolob Canyons and Bryce Canyon are also pretty close and have beautiful views and hiking trails.
We made stops at Horseshoe Bend and Montezuma’s Castle on the way home. They are very unique places and definitely worth the quick stop. We had such an amazing time in Southern Utah and it is definitely a place we will return to.
